Department of Labor awards $11.53 million in grants to provide job training services to 5,500 veterans nationwide

On August 21, 2012, the Veterans Employment and Training Service (VETS) awarded grants totaling
$11.53 million through the Veterans’ Workforce Investment Program (VWIP) to provide an estimated
5,500 veterans with job training and skills development services. Eleven grants were awarded on a
competitive basis to state and local workforce investment boards, local public agencies and nonprofit
organizations, including faith-based and community organizations, in 10 states.

US Labor Department awards $12 million in grants to provide job training, employment services for formerly incarcerated women and girls

On June 28, 2012 the U.S. Department of Labor’s Employment and Training Administration announced a
total of $12,096,172 in grants to nine nonprofit organizations across the country to provide critical
employment and support services for previously incarcerated female adults and youth as they make the
transition back into their communities.

US Department of Labor announces $1.8 million in grants to support women in nontraditional occupations

On June 26, 2012 the U.S. Department of Labor’s Women’s Bureau and Employment and Training
Administration’s Office of Apprenticeship. announced awards of $1.8 million in grants to consortia in six
states through the Women in Apprenticeship and Nontraditional Occupations program. The grants will
support innovative projects that improve the recruitment, hiring, training, employment and retention of
women in apprenticeships in industries such as advanced manufacturing, transportation and construction.

US Department of Labor awards nearly $50 million to provide training and employment services to formerly incarcerated juveniles and young adults

On June 21, 2012 the U.S. Department of Labor’s Employment and Training Administration announced
nearly $50 million in two types of grants to 25 community-based organizations that will provide job
training, education and support services to youth and young adults returning from the juvenile justice

US Labor Department awards nearly $147 million in Workforce Innovation Fund grants

On June 14, 2012 the U.S. Department of Labor’s Employment and Training Administration announced
nearly $147 million in grants to develop and expand innovative strategies to help Americans return to work
by delivering services more efficiently, facilitating cooperation across programs and funding streams, and
focusing on partnerships with specific employers or industry sectors to develop programs that reflect
